Huntersville, the first Lake Norman town north of Charlotte, is a town rich with history and tradition. First established as the town of Craighead, Huntersville was a key location for the railroad industry, cotton plantations, and prominent schools. In 1873, the town was officially incorporated and renamed in honor of major landowner and cotton farmer, Robert Boston Hunter. Fertile farming land and railroad expansion caused rapid growth in Huntersville. Over time, textile mills were established and brought more jobs and residents to the area.
